Art

by Hand & Eye

Description

*** Please note, the paper is slightly creased (not shown in images). Once framed the creases may be visible, but due to the hand printed nature this may not be off putting for you. From the archives! This will be our final copy of this print. ***

"The first mistake of art is to assume that it's serious."

This latest print to be created by Hand & Eye at their London studio has been inspired by a quote from the influential American music journalist, author and musician Lester Bangs (1948 - 1982).

Set using both wood and metal type and printed in a collection of beautifully bold colours.

  • Letterpressed by hand
  • 5 colours on smooth white paper
  • 420mm by 594mm (16½ by 23½ in)

The Artist

Hand & Eye is a letterpress studio consisting of Phil Abel, Rosa De Carlo and Nick Gill. The team work out of their London based letterpress studio collaborating on both commissions and their own work.

Founded by Phil Abel, Hand & Eye have been running since 1985, making great printing using only traditional letterpress techniques. Utilising both wood and metal type in their work, the result is always eye catching!

Framing

We do not currently offer a framing service; however, please find some advice on how best to frame this print below.

As a colourful design on white paper this print would really suit a plain white or black frame. If you wanted something a little more colourful you might consider picking a frame to match one of the colours used in the print.

This print measures 59.4cm by 42cm which is a standard A2 frame size. Frames of this size can often be found in high street shops or ready-made from local framers.

If you would prefer a frame tailored to specific requirements we would recommend taking the print to a local framer who would be able to offer expert advice and a wide variety of framing materials and options. There are also now many online framers who can custom make frames to your requirements. By searching online for 'custom frames' you will find many online framers stocking both standard sizes and frames custom made to any size, in a wide variety of options.

Vintage frames and pre-loved frames discovered in markets and charity shops can also provide unique and low-cost framing options. If a frame that you find is larger than the print fret not, a local framer would be able to cut a piece of mount that would allow the print to fit the frame perfectly.
